Palletforce Member Scoops Regional Business Award

Palletforce founding member Wm Armstrong Group has been recognised with a prestigious regional business award.

The company, based in Longtown near Carlisle, was crowned winner in the Transport & Logistics category of the inaugural Cumbria Family Business Awards. With around 10 per cent of the population involved in the transport sector, it was one of the most competitive categories and dominated by traditional family businesses.

The Awards aim to celebrate the diverse range of family-run companies which make up 85 per cent of Cumbria’s businesses, contributing significantly to the economy and community both within the county and beyond.

By winning their category Wm Armstrong gains automatic entry into the second round of the national Family Business of the Year Awards, run by Family Business United and held at The Mayfair Hotel in London on 8th June 2017.

William Armstrong founded his haulage firm in 1927 on the agricultural industry and today the third generation of the family is running the business.

Managing director Jennifer Whyberd said: “We are all thrilled by this award, and I’d like to wish congratulations and a great big thank you to everyone who works at Wm Armstrong – this is recognition of all of their hard work and we certainly couldn’t do it without you.”

The awards ceremony was held at Castle Green Hotel in Kendal and hosted by Cumbrian-born Hairy Biker Dave Myers.

Palletforce sales and marketing director Dave Holland said: “Wm Armstrong has been with us since the very start and were one of the original founder members who made Palletforce a Great British Success Story. We are delighted that they have been recognised for their contribution to Cumbria, both as a family business and a key player in the local economy.”
